Effective and efficient internal communication is important in any business.
The nature of any business has information filtering down a management tier and there has to be a strong communication system in place. A strong system will mean there are less mistakes and information is received more efficiently.

Developing a strong communication structure isn't as hard as it may seem.
The first step would be to address who is responsible for planning the communication structure. That would be the CEO who would then delegate the implementation of such plan to the Human Resources Department.
Tips for HR -
- Develop specific job descriptions. Make it obvious to employees and management who is responsible for delivering certain information and how it is delivered.
- Train employees on how to use all modes of communication such as email, phones, Shotgun etc
- Inform members of management on their communication responsibilities. Have weekly management meetings to track and enforce these responsibilities.
- Have a thorough new employee induction program. A well planned induction should last a few hours. Informing a new employee of policies, procedures, direct supervisors etc will cut out any communication confusion and will enforce good communication from the very beginning.
- Have a training program for management. Group programs such as 'How to deal with difficult conversations' or 'Communicating with your employees' are great for educating the team, building relationships and upping team morale.
- Enforce team and/or company wide meetings so everyone is updated on current and future information.
- Increase communication. Provide more detail when talking/emailing. This gives the respondent a better idea of what you are doing/saying/trying to achieve.
Having an efficient and effective communications structure in place isn't difficult. These are simple and obvious ways to enforce and maintain good communications.
HR is responsible for employee relations and when employees are bringing up issues like workplace confusion, bad communication or poor management then they have to address it.
Members of Production are responsible for delivering information to artists. The amount of people delivering the information should be minimal. There shouldn't be 5 people giving out notes. Production needs to be very in-tune with their team. My suggestion; up the face to face time and floor walk-a-rounds.
The CEO is responsible for driving the company forward but they can't do that if employees aren't happy or if there is a lack of strong internal communications. The CEO needs to be informed of issues like this so he can address it, develop a plan and involve the right people to implement the plan.
Too much great communication is never an issue so once you have the basics covered here are more ways to communicate internally.
More great tips -
- New starter emails. Inform the whole company on who is a new employee and what they are working on.
- Social event emails. Send out a weekly email on upcoming events. This boosts morale and engages the employees socially.
- Increase face to face time. Makes everyone more comfortable with each other, gets information across more efficiently and improves spoken communication.
